Biography

Born in Florence, Italy, on January 9, 1949. Married, two daughters.

1968-1975: University of Trieste Medical School, Italy.

1975-1979: Residency, School of Ophthalmology, University of Trieste, Italy (Chairman: Prof. R. Brancato).

1982: Fellowship, Retina Associates, Boston, USA (Chairman: Prof. C.L. Schepens).

Research interests

Diagnosis, surgical treatment and follow-up of vitreoretinal/macular diseases. Ultrabiomicroscopy, optical coherence tomography, vitreoretinal cutting lasers, vitreous substitutes, new substances (polymer) and new technical solutions to facilitate vitreoretinal surgery (surgical image tracker – patented). Surgical endoscopy. Portable corneal fluorimeter for the early detection of diabetic retinopathy. Organization, programming and technical solution of a new telemedicine program. In collaboration with engineers, physicists and bioengineers at this and other Universities (Milano, Roma, Brescia).
 

Teaching experience and appointments

At the II School of Ophthalmology of the University of Milano since 1988.

At the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University since 1999. Continuous Medical Education on vitreoretinal surgery at the SHARED telemedicine program since 1996.

At the University of Insubria of Varese and Como since 2004.
