Research interests

Paleobiology and paleobiogeography of Triassic Reptiles from the Tethys margins, both aquatic and terrestrial. My research is aimed to reconstruct the systematic relationships and the mode of Triassic reptiles. My studies of Triassic Reptile faunas from the Southern Calcaroeus Alps are aimed to document the importance of these sites both for the intrinsic value of the findings (e. g. the oldest flying reptiles come from these sites) and to improve our knowledge of the biodiversity, and paleobiogeographic relationships with other localities. For what concerns biodiversity, my morphofunctional studies highlighted the importance of several taxa whose significance was not fully understood allowing to spread to an international audience allowing other researchers to interpret correctly some taxa (found in USA and UK localities) which were considered as enigmatic for decades. For this reason the study of Italian taxa will go along with the comparison with USA and British faunas in order to spot the presence of common taxa, a research which has already given important results. In addition, new important opportunities seem feasibly to come from the new Chinese localities which again share several taxa with our faunas. My studies have been published in several ISI journals and presented in several international symposia and workshops.
