Biography

Graduation: 1985, University of Milan, Italy (Ph.D. in Biological Sciences).

1986-1993, Postgraduate Research Scientist, Section of Cytology and Zoology of Dept. of Biology, University of Milan.

1993-present, Assistant Professor, at DBSF, University of Insubria, Varese, Italy.

Qualifications and awards

2000, Award of UZI (Italian Zoological Society) for the best work.

Research interests

1 Research activity was initially focused on vertebrates fertilization mechanisms, specifically I studied the structure and function of gametes envelopes and cytoskeleton before and after fertilization processes.

2 At present, research activity is focused on innate immunity and evolution of immune responses. I investigate the molecular and cellular immunity of insect vectors of environmental or human parasites.
