Biography

Gilda Ripamonti was born in Lecco, on June 27, 1967. She lives in Milano, and is married with three children. While she was a student at the School of Law, she attended in Washington D.C. the “Orientation in the U.S. Legal System” organized by the International Law Institute in cooperation with the Georgetown University Law Center in 1989. She then attended two courses at the Georgetown Law Center Summer school hosted by the Istituto Universitario Europeo in Fiesole, in 1990. She graduated in 1992 from the School of Law at University of Milan, with a dissertation thesis in American Criminal Law, supervised by Prof. Giorgio Marinucci, after a period of research in Washington D.C.

She was in the Ph.D. Program in Italian and Comparative Criminal Law from 1993 until 1997 at the University of Pavia. In September 1995 she passed the Bar Exam in Milano and became a Lawyer. In 1997 she received her Ph.D. with a research thesis called “The justified use of arms in the Italian and United States’ Criminal Law”

In 2000 she was granted a two year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Milan to work on a project study on the “structure and evidence issues in sexual crimes”.

In 2002 she became a Research Fellow in Criminal Law at the University of Insubria, School of Law

Since January 2003, she is part of the editorial staff of the Juvenile Section of the Cassazione Penale Law Review
 

Qualifications and awards

In 1991 granted with a Fulbright Scholarship for participating in a Masters in Law at the Harvard Law School, dismissed for familial causes. In 1992 graduated from the University of Milan, with a final result of 110/110 with distinction. In 1995 , Lawyer at the Bar of Milano. In 1997 Ph.D. in Italian and Comparative Criminal Law at University of Pavia. In 2000 winner of a two years postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Milan to start a project study on the Crimes against sexual freedom. In 2002 winner of an open competition announced by University of Insubria to become University Research Fellow in Criminal Law, and then called by the University of Insubria, Varese - Como. Italian mother tongue, fluent in English, scholastic German and French.

Justifications and Excuses; the concept of violence in Criminal Law; Rape and other sexual crimes; Juveniles as authors and victims of crimes
 

Teaching experience and appointments

At the University of Milan she has collaboratively taught since 1992 the basic course of Criminal Law, with Seminars covering various subject such as: the theory and practice of causation; mistake and intent; mistake of law; crimes against honor; crimes against property; crime of assault and battery; crime of assistance’s failure. At the University of Insubria after one year of collaborative teaching in Criminal Law course and an entire cycle of seminars covering all the crimes against property and against the person, she was appointed as temporary substitute professor of Criminal Law- basic course, for the 2002-2003 academic year; she was then appointed as temporary Professor of Commercial Criminal Law for the present and the two past academic years
