Born in Milano (Italy) (1958). Laurea degree in Physics at the University of Milano (1981). Ph.D. at the University of Parma (1986). Postdoctoral Associate at Cornell University (USA) (1986-7) and at the International School for Advanced Studies (Trieste) (1988-90). Research Associate at the University of Milano (1990-92). Associate Professor of Physics at the University of Catania (1992-93), at the University of Milano (Como branch) (1993-98) and at the University of Insubria (1998-2001). Full professor of Physics (Condensed Matter) since 2001. | |

Research interests |
Condensed matter Physics. Development and analysis of microscopic models able to describe the regime of strong correlation both in classical and quantum systems. Particular attention is devoted to 1) the study of phase transitions in classical fluids (simple and complex), 2) the modeling of equilibrium and dynamical properties of Bose-Einstein condesates, 3) the analysis of simple models of strongly correlated electrons in low dimensionality, relevant for the interpretation of magnetic properties of narrow band materials, for the description of molecular magnets at the nano-scale and for the understanding of high temperature superconductivity. The research is carried out by use of both analytical methods and advanced numerical techniques, required for the solution of non-linear partial differential equations and for performing exact diagonalizations of very large matrices. Author or co-author of more than a hundred publications in international journals. | |
