Research interests

Starting from the mid ‘70s, Luigi Lugiato contributed new and pioneering innovations to several topics in the broad fields of Nonlinear Optics and Quantum Optics. His work was theoretical, but it stimulated a large number of landmark experiments in several laboratories in the world.

He is the author of more than 300 scientific articles in international refereed journals, in proceedings of international conferences and in volumes.

He contributed, in particular, to studies on optical bistability [1, 2, 4, 9 ] , optical instabilities [3, 7, 10, 13, 14], non-classical states of the radiation field [ 5, 6, 8]. His works contributed to establishing the fields of Optical Patterns [ 11, 12, 15, 16,] , Cavity Solitons [ 19, 21, 23 ], Quantum Imaging [ 17, 18, 20 , 22, 24-27]

Teaching experience and appointments

During his long teaching experience, Lugiato taught several courses on Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Optics, Quantum Electronics, Quantum Optics.

From 1998-2004 he was the Director of the Doctorate Program in Physics and Astrophysics of University of Insubria
