Biography

Born in Domodossola (Italy) on May 31, 1945. A fellow of the Collegio Borromeo in Pavia. Graduated in Physics in the University of Pavia (1968). Served in the Italian army (1970-1971). From 1971 Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor at the Mathematical Institute and at the Department of Nuclear and Theoretical Physics in the University of Pavia, then the University of Milano (1991) and then to the University of Insubria.
 

Qualifications and awards

He is a member of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics.
 

Research interests

Theoretical research in Quantum Chaos: that is, the study of quantum mechanical implications of classical Chaotic motion, and of their relevance to several fields of microphysics. At the present time (2005) these include: Solid State Physics (properties of coherent transport in quasi-periodic and disordered media), Atomic Physics (Rydberg atoms in external electro-magnetic fields), Quantum Optics with Cold and Ultra-cold atoms (Quantum accelerator modes). Also working in the mathematical theory of connections between spectral and dynamic properties of quantum systems, with special attention to the case of Singular Continuous (Fractal) spectra.
