Research interests

Interests have ranged over a variety of subjects in theoretical and mathematical physics: quantum statistical mechanics of irreversible processes, unstable states in quantum physics, group theoretical methods in quantum physics, special and general relativity and quantum theory in curved spacetimes. Major contributions are the classification of the generators of quantum dynamical semigroups of N-level systems (with A. Kossakowski and E.C.G. Sudarshan) and the dynamical characterization of equilibrium states (KMS states) within the algebraic approach to quantum statistical mechanics (with A. Frigerio and M.Verri). Present interests are concerned with classical cosmological models which attempt at giving a unified phenomenological description of the effects of both dark matter and dark energy, such as tachyon models and Chaplygin gas ones. Author or co-author of about 40 papers published in international journals.
