Biography

Jutta M. Birkhoff attended medical University Courses in Pavia where she graduated in 1991 (thesis on Child abuse). She worked as an MD at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Varese. She earned a Ph.D. in Criminology and Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Turin and then a specialization in Forensic Medicine at the University of Insubria. J. Birkhoff is a member of the Lombard association of Forensic Medicine, of the Italian association of Community Therapy, of the Italian society of Criminology. She is also member of the editorial comity of the review "Archivio di Medicina legale e delle Assicurazioni" and member of the scientific commission of "Rassegna italiana di Criminologia", official organ of Italian Society of Criminology. Since 1998 she is an Associate Professor of Forensic Medicine at the University of Insubria

Research interests

Her main scientific interests are related to criminology and forensic psychiatry (child abuse and neglect, victimisation of elderly, homicide in family, relationship between mental problems and delinquency, narratology in psychiatric expertise, serial killer, witness of sexual abused children).
 

Teaching experience and appointments

J. Birkhoff teaches Forensic Medicine in Courses for medical students, physicians, nurses and other health professionals, both in undergraduate and graduate level. She is a member of the Scientific and Teaching Committee and Professor in the Masters in Forensic Criminology, University of Insubria and Castellanza.
