The department aims at promoting studies in the field of law and economics of firms and corporations. Particular focus is devoted to the study of the internal organization of large corporations, to comparing the institutional design of civil law among industrialized countries, to the rules and the workings of the labor market, to market competition and strategic interactions between firms, to the interactions between firms and public institutions, to the relations between financial and real variables in th e firms lives. The methods and the instruments employed are the ones typical of both lawyers and economists.
The department leads both individual and group research projects.
Some research projects have been financed. Among them, the “Excellence Project” on interaction between European Law and national laws, directed by Prof. Pozzo; two local units participating to a national research project financed by the Italian Ministry of University (MUR): one in Economics on Structural Dynamics: Firms and Regulation directed by Prof.Colangelo, and one in Comparative Civil Law on Language and the Law directed by Prof. Pozzo.
Future research will deal with the following topics:
in Economics: Price Discrimination in Oligopoly, Vertical Relations Between Producers and Distributors, Fiscal Federalism, Presumptive Direct Taxation, Investment and the Corporate Financial Structure;
in the Law: Civil Responsibility for Environmental Damages, Language and the Law, Multiculturalism, the Employment Contract for Extra-UE Workers, Productive Decentralization, Handicapped Workers, The Recent Reforms in the Italian Commercial Law and the Corporate Law, Extra-Judicial Conciliation, the Civil Process Working Problems, the New Corpus for the Industrial Copyright.
