Barbara Pozzo graduated
in 1989 from the Law School in Milan. In the same year she was awarded
a scholarship by the University of Florence to attend a Ph.D. program
in Comparative Law. From 1989 to 1993 - during her Ph.D. program -
she spent numerous periods of research and teaching abroad, especially
in Germany, France and United States. In this period she was Visiting
Professor at the University of Hamburg (Germany), at the University
of Montpellier (France), and spent selected periods of research in
the United States (Miami Law School, California University, Law School
at Boalt Hall).
Since 1993, after being appointed as Research Professor at the University
of Milan she specialized in the field of Comparative Environmental
Law, focusing on the problems of environmental liability in a comparative
law perspective, publishing numerous articles and books in Italian,
English and French.
In 1998 she was appointed Associate Professor
at the University of Milan. Since 1998 she has been Coordinator of
the International Research Group on Property and Environment, as a
part of The Common Core of European Private Law Project (University
of Trento – Italy).
In 1999 she became a Member of the Editorial Board of “Rivista
Giuridica dell’Ambiente”, the most representative Italian
Review in the Field of Environmental Law . She participates at numerous
conferences in this field in Italy and abroad. She In 2000 she organized
the first “Master Program on Environmental Law at the University
of Milan”, where she continued teaching even after having been
appointed at the University of Insubria.
After getting tenure at the School of Law at the University of Insubria she
organized several conferences on the problems of harmonizing European
Private Law. She also works as Member of the Editorial Board for the “European Review of Private Law” (Kluwer Law International),
where she publishes articles and case notes in English and French.
Since 2001 she has been Director of a Research Project on “The
Development of a European Legal Terminology in the field of Contract
Law” financed by MIUR (Ministero per l’Istruzione, l’Università
e la Ricerca). She specializes in the field of Multilingualism and
its Impact on the European Harmonisation Process.
In 2002 she organized
the first Summer School in Comparative Law in Como together with Louisiana
State University (Baton Rouge – US) which has now reached the
third edition. In 2004 and 2005 she was Visiting Professor at LSU
in the Distinguished Global Visitors Program.
