The Ministry for Instruction, Universities and Research has recently financed a project (one of very few in basic physics) of internationalization of the Physics Ph.D. Program in Como for the period of 2004–2006.
The project aims to establish and strengthen relations with a number of European universities and advanced research institutes. Students taking advantage of the bilateral agreements set up under this project will have the opportunity to spend up to 12 months in any of the following institutes (to which others may be added at a later date): the École Polytechnique, Paris; the AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow; Ljubljana University, Slovenia; Vilnius University, Lithuania; Cambridge University, U.K. and Durham University, U.K.
The basis for this is the already active collaboration between these institutions in a variety of existing research projects. Further action, aimed at strengthening international ties, provides for the invitation of professors from partner institutions to spend periods of a few weeks in Como and hold short specialized courses at the doctorate level.
