Biography

Terenzio Congiu was born on February 11, 1961 in Cagliari, Italy. In 1988 he graduated in Biology at the University of Cagliari.
In 1990 he collaborated with the Superior Institute of Health in Rome acquiring a deeper knowledge of molecular biology. Subsequently he worked for the Institute of Pathological Anatomy of the University of Cagliari, where he learned transmission electron microscopy with particular attention to X-rays dispersive spectroscopy techniques.
In 1991 he began a four year Ph.D. in Morphological Sciences at the Laboratory of Electron Microscopy of the Department of Cytomorphology of the University of Cagliari. During this period he completed his knowledge of cellular morphology studying High Resolution Scansion Electron Microscopy and collaborating to the development of new techniques for the three-dimensional visualization of extra and intracellular ultrastructure.
In 1998 he joined the Human Morphology Laboratory of the University of Insubria as a Researcher in Human Anatomy
Since 2002 he is Associate Professor of Human Anatomy at the University of Insubria

Qualifications and awards

A full degree in Biology
- Affiliations to the Italian Anatomical Society

Research interests

His research is mostly focused on Ultrastructural analysis of human and animal tissues using Transmission and Scanning Electron Microscopy.
Other specific interests are:
-1 Improvement of maceration techniques (alkali, osmium) in order to display the fine inner architecture of the cell and of the extracellular matrix.
-2 Study of microvascular patterns by corrosion-casting technique
-3 X-ray microanalysis
-4 Atomic force microscopy

Teaching experience and appointments

Full courses of Human Anatomy and Histology for the degree in Physical Education.
Courses of Anatomy for the specialistic degree in Medicine and Surgery;
