Valentina Jacometti graduated in 2000 at the Law School of University of Milano-Bicocca with a thesis in Comparative Law on civil liability for pure economic loss in England and Italy. In the same year she was admitted to the Ph.D. program in Private Comparative Law of the University of Trento, that she concluded in 2004 with a thesis on tradable pollution rights.
In 2001-2002 she attended and successfully completed the Master Program in Environmental Law of the State University of Milan. In 2002 she also obtained the Diplôme Supérieur de Droit Comparé of Faculté Internationale de Droit Comparé de Strasbourg (France). In July 2004 she attended the Summer School in Comparative Law hold by Professors of the Louisiana State University Law Center at the Insubria University.
In 2004-2005 she was appointed with a research contract with the Law School of the Insubria University, focusing on the harmonisation of European contract law and legal terminology, and in 2006 she became Resarch Professor of the Insubria University.
Since 2000 she spent various periods of research abroad, especially in Germany and France. In particular in 2001 she was awarded a scholarship by the University of Milan in order to conduct researches at the University of Frankfurt (Germanny) and she was Visiting Scholar at the University of Lyon 3 (France) in 2003 and in 2006 within the Project "Uniform Terminology for European Law", financed by the EU.
Since 2003 she is in charge of reviewing foreign environmental law reviews for Rivista Giuridica dell'Ambiente, and in 2004 she became a member of the Editorial Board of this law review.
In 2003 she participated to a research group on "Tradable pollution rights and emissions trading" for Fondazione Lombardia per l'Ambiente, and since 2002 she takes part to a research group on "Language and Law" of University of Milan and Insubria University, with particular attention to the harmonisation and unification of European contract law and legal terminology problems.
Since 2001 she is a juriste-linguiste freelance for the European Central Bank and since 2004 for the European Court of Justice (having obtained the 4th position in the general competition for legal/linguistic experts).
In 2001 she worked at Coudert-Schürmann law firm in Frankfurt am Main (Leonardo project fellowship recipient) and in 2002-2003, after attending the Master Program in Environmental Law, she worked at Allen & Overy law firm in Milan (with particular attention to the environmental field). She was admitted to the Milan Attorney's Bar in 2004.
She is fluent in English and French and has a good knowledge of German.
