The Department of Computer Science and Communication (DICOM) was established in Varese on July 1, 2002. The overarching scientific goals of DICOM are devoted to the challenges posed by the modern Information, Communication and Knowledge society, which calls for bridging the divide between the humanistic and scientific cultures and knowledge. The department strives to reach this goal through a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach based both on the scientific-technological developments of informatics and telecommunications, and on the humanistic aspects of their most advanced implementations related to electronic digital communication.
