Biography

Dr. Mauri earned his medical degree (1985) at the University of Pavia School of Medicine and became a neurology specialist after 4 years at the Department of Neuroscience in Pavia.

Stage in Clinical Neuropsychology (memory disorders in Alzheimer’s disease) at University Roma Tor Vergata, october-december 1993 (Prof. C. Caltagirone, Dr. G.A. Carlesimo).

Then he has achieved a Ph.D. in Human Psychobiology at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Study of Modena.
From the early ‘90s he made most of his scientific work at the IRCCS Neurological Foundation, of Pavia (Prof. G. Nappi).

His research career has focused in the study of clinical neuropsychology, cerebrovascular disease, dementias and aging disorders, symptomatic headaches, cognitive disorders in infectious and endocrine diseases.

In these fields he has participated to research projects at national level and has also been involved in multicenter controlled therapeutic trials (national and international).

From May 2002 he continued his scientific and teaching work at the University of Insubria as Assistant Professor and Research Associate in Neurology (Prof. G. Bono).

He is responsible of Laboratory of Clinical Neuropsychology and participated to the second level diagnostic activities for Alzheimer’s Disease and cognitive dysfunction, also being involved in the Local Committee for Neuroscience.

Research interests

Expression of apoptosis-related proteins and dopaminergic receptors in peripheral blood lymphocytes from patients with Alzheimer’s disease and their relationship with clinical and therapeutic variables. Interaction between apolipoprotein e-4 and traumatic brain injury in patients with Alzheimer’s disease and mild cognitive impairment.

Memory performances in normal aging and Alzheimer’s disease:: structure and content of semantic and implicit memory systems.

The brain as target for endocrine systems: cognitive implications in hypothyroidism, Cushing’ disease, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, memory functioning at menopause.

Cognitive abnormalities and disease progression in different populations of HIV-positive subjects.

2001-2002 Contract professor of Neuropsychology (amnesic disorders), Residency School in Neurology, University of Insubria, Varese.

2002-present Assistant professor in Neurology: School of Medicine (Neuropsychology and cognitive disorders - Nervous System Diseases); Residency School in Neurology (Neurology III, Neuropsychology IV); Schools for Technician of Radiology, Professional Education and Physiotherapist (Neurology).

2002-present Tutor (co-supervision with Prof. G. Bono) of undergraduate and post-graduate students (School of Medicine, Residency School in Neurology) during the preparation of their thesis. The tutoring activity involves, in particular, the methodologies in experimental research, data treatment and statistical analysis.
