The Department of Clinical and Biological Sciences (DSCB) is focused on translational medicine, i.e. on the task of moving results of basic research closer to clinical applications. The aim is two-fold: a) to benefit patients and the public at large, and b) to train students and young physicians entering the 21st century. Emphasis is on diagnosis (medical physics, immunology, microbiology, oncology), prevention (cardiology, obstetrics and ginecology, occupational medicine, pediatrics), and therapy of human diseases (cardiology, ginecology, odontostomatology, pediatrics, psychiatry). Research programs are financed by the European Community (SUCIMA, EUROVAC, MORGAM), Italian and foreign Institutions (MIUR, CNR, ISS, Regione Lombardia, University of Tokyo), and privates (EORTC, BML, pharmaceutical and biomedical companies).
The PubMed database shows that DSCB researchers have produced 27 peer-reviewed publications in 2004, with a cumulative Impact Factor of 82.24. As of September 2005, the cumulative Impact Factor is 72.30.
