"I am a medical doctor currently practicing in Ejed Medical Foundation in Kumba Cameroon. I graduated in medicine at the University of Insubria in Varese.
During my last two years of training in General Medicine and Surgery, I had the opportunity to follow an internship program in the Department of General Surgery headed by Prof. Renzo Dionigi. After graduation, I went to the UK for a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at the University of Liverpool. I returned to Cameroon in Feb. 1991.
I got my first employment with Plantations Pamol Du Cameroon, an agro industrial setting. I was the only medical doctor of the hospital with 50 beds.
I was amazed with the ease with which I successfully carried out challenging interventions on patients with giant scrotal hernias, appendectomies, caesarean sections, amputations, without any post operative complications.
Within six months the hospital administration observed a great increase in attendance of patients, from distant villages, as news was spread that Lobe Estate Hospital now had a young surgeon from Italy. I was hence challenged to perform surgery twice weekly to cope with the cases. I gained a lot of experience and built up much confidence in my self, coupled with professional satisfaction.
I am currently running a hospital, Ejed Medical Foundation with 25 beds in the city of Kumba, in the English part of Cameroon. My father, Dr. S N Nzume, who is now retired, founded the hospital.
I continue to provide services as a general practitioner in general medicine and surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, at low cost. Ejed Medical Foundation under my stewardship since eight years has been providing internship facilities each year for medical students from Holland, Italy, France, USA and South Korea.
I am extremely grateful to Prof. Dionigi for the good foundation he gave me in surgery which enabled me to practice medicine successfully in the special situation in Cameroon."
