Center for Major Instrumentation for Biomedical Research (CSGARB)
In 2001, CSGARB was established in Varese to provide for the management of the most extensively used complex research instruments at the School of Medicine and at the School of Sciences in Varese.
By pooling the financial resources of multiple research groups and departments, the aim of CSGARB is to guarantee the optimal efficiency and use of these technologically advanced instruments, through consistent maintenance and upgrading. The instruments are located in the departments and directly managed by their qualified staff.
In addition to having a wide array of sophisticated instruments in the areas of electron microscopy, analytical chemistry and biochemistry, flow cytometry, molecular biology, CSGARB provides state-of-the-art analytic and measurement capabilities and facilities to scientists at the University of Insubria. Through payment of a nominal charge, the Center will provide access to any other users or organizations.
Services provided include: analytical services, short term courses/training programs, development of specific analytical techniques/procedures, and consultations on analytical problems.
Scientific fields covered include: biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, morphology of materials and biomaterials, pharmacology (including assays of drug activity/response), environmental sciences.
The management of CSGARB is entrusted to a Technical-Scientific Committee, which approves the budget as well as research proposals involving the use of the instruments and funds and coordinates new instrument purchase proposals.
