The University of Insubria features in the 2025 Impact Rankings and continues to pursue the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, demonstrating its commitment to addressing the most pressing challenges, including environmental sustainability, social inclusion, reducing inequalities and economic growth.

The Impact is a ranking produced by Times Higher Education that assesses the impact of universities on society and their commitment to sustainable development. Now in its fourth edition, the ranking is rapidly gaining international recognition, with over 2,000 participating universities, analysing and evaluating the actions undertaken and resources invested to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

The University of Insubria is placed in the 601–800 range worldwide out of 2,318 participating universities, ranking fifth among Italian universities and fourth among those in Lombardy, with several institutions sharing the same position.

Looking at the detailed rankings for individual goals, the University of Insubria achieves excellent results in SDG 4 and SDG 10, where it is ranked in the 101–200 range worldwide, and respectively second and fifth among Italian universities.

  • SDG 4 – Quality Education, in which the University has gained more than 300 positions, assesses how universities ensure and promote the right to education by providing equitable and high-quality education.
  • SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities examines how universities address the reduction of inequalities, analysing research on social inequalities, anti-discrimination policies and commitment to recruiting staff and students from under-represented groups, including students and staff with disabilities, first-generation students and international students.

The third-best result achieved by the University is in SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, where it ranks in the 201–300 range worldwide and sixth in Italy. SDG 9 evaluates how universities drive innovation through investment and collaboration with industry, actively contributing to the development of new technologies and the creation of innovative enterprises.

Insubria also gains positions in SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals. Compared with the previous edition, the University of Insubria’s positions remain unchanged in the other rankings relating to Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

Each SDG includes a set of parameters and indicators used to assess a university’s performance in relation to that goal. The indicators are calibrated to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across four areas: research, administration, outreach and teaching.

Being included in this ranking represents recognition of the fundamental role of academia in driving sustainable change, making a meaningful contribution to the creation of a sustainable and resilient future.
