Emeritus and Honorary Professors of the University of Insubria Retired professors may be awarded an honorary title if they have distinguished themselves through their scientific and teaching achievements.The Emeritus Professor is an academic figure present in almost all universities around the world and represents the highest academic rank. In Italy, the figures of Emeritus Professor and Honorary Professor were defined in Royal Decree No. 1592 of 31 August 1933.If the professor has served as a full professor for at least 15 years, a proposal may be made to confer the title of honorary professor; if he or she has served as a full professor for at least 20 years, the title may be professor emeritus.The title is granted by decree of the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research.
