Framework agreement signed with University Teknologi MARA (UiTM), the largest university in Malaysia

A framework agreement was signed today by the Rector's Delegate for Internationalisation Prof. Giorgio Maria Zamperetti with the University Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia's largest university with 34 campuses, 13 faculties and 9 academic centres across the country. UiTM offers over 500 academic programmes at Bachelor's, Master's and PhD levels, as well as professional programmes; it has about 160,000 students.

In the long list of recent accolades, UiTM was ranked 104th in the QS Asia University Rankings 2023, and 361-380th in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2023. In addition, UiTM ranked between 101st and 200th in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022.

For Hospitality and Leisure Management, the Malaysian university was ranked 42nd in the world. In fact, the collaboration was conceived for the benefit of the new Master's degree course in Hospitality for sustainable tourism development, which started this year at Insubria and is delivered entirely in English. Tourism is in fact one of the driving sectors in Malaysia, which remains one of the most visited countries in the world thanks to its virtually unspoilt landscapes, islands, beaches and sea: hence the importance of sustainable tourism, on which the new Insubria master's degree course focuses.

"After Vietnam, Insubria's expansion into central and southern Asia continues," comments Prof. Zamperetti, "an area of the planet that is growing rapidly and offers great opportunities in the field of research and higher education. I am sure that my colleagues from the Tourism courses (Giuseppe Colangelo, Umberto Galmarini, and Roberta Minazzi) will know how to develop this new international agreement well, with the understanding that the collaboration may also extend to other disciplines studied at Insubria.
