Curricular internship: Procedure

Students enrolled in degree programmes offered by the DiDEC Department may choose to undertake a curricular internship during their university career. The internship regulations, available in the ATTACHMENTS section of this page, establish the requirements that must be met – in terms of credits – in order to begin this activity.

Internships are managed through the AlmaLaurea portal, which you are kindly requested to register for directly from your web page, under the heading Internships and work placements.

Are you looking for a company to do your internship with?

You can refer to the internship offers published by companies on the above-mentioned portal, applying for one of the open positions and leaving your email address @studenti.uninsubria.it as a reference.

Consult the offers on the notice board via the web by accessing the AlmaLaurea portal and selecting ‘Job/internship offers’ in your control panel.

If you are selected, please inform the staff at this office so that the procedure can be activated, allowing you to start your internship.

Have you already found a company to do your internship with?

You can choose a company that is willing to host you, provided that the work you will be doing is consistent with your educational path. You will need to submit your proposal to the Internship Desk, which, after evaluating the merits of your request, may authorise the internship.

In this case, the proposed organisation will be required to:

enter into an agreement with the University, if it has not already done so;
proceed with the drafting of the training project.

For further information:

During the internship period, you will be required to:

  • fill in the attendance register, which can be downloaded from your AlmaLaurea page (section “manage your internships”, training project details). Alternatively, you can fill in the attendance register, available in the ATTACHMENTS section of this page;
  • contact your academic tutor halfway through the internship period to inform them of the progress of the work you are doing.

At the end of the internship period, you must:

  • have the attendance register signed by the company tutor;

  • ask the company tutor to fill in the joint internship report, which can be downloaded from your AlmaLaurea page (section “manage your internships”, “training project details”), and have it signed by the teaching/organisational tutor as well. Alternatively, you can fill in the final internship report, available in the ATTACHMENTS section of this page;

  • Fill in the final internship evaluation questionnaire on the AlmaLaurea portal and have your company tutor fill it in as well (the system will send an automatic email to your addresses with a link to the dedicated page).

The host organisation/company may:

  • Extend the internship beyond the term set out in the training project (up to a maximum of 12 months);
  • Temporarily suspend the internship;
  • End the internship early (e.g. upon completion of the required number of hours).

The request must be submitted via the online system (no later than one week before the scheduled end date) by accessing the internship “details”. Please notify your academic tutor that you have submitted the request so that they can proceed with authorisation.

Early curricular internship for the legal profession

Early training internship pursuant to Articles 40 and 41, Law 247/2012

The Department has entered into an agreement with the Varese Bar Association to allow and regulate the early commencement of a six-month internship for admission to the legal profession while still at university.

To view the Agreement for early training and the Supplementary Act to the agreement, please consult the following attachments:

Students are permitted to start their six-month internship to qualify as a solicitor before obtaining their degree:

a) if they are enrolled in the final year of the LMG-01 Master's Degree in Law;

b) who are up to date with their exams for the first four years of the Master's Degree in Law;

c) with an average exam mark of at least 27/30;

d) who have acquired credits in the following scientific disciplines: Private Law (IUS/01), Civil Procedural Law (IUS/15), Criminal Law (IUS/17), Criminal Procedural Law (IUS/16), Administrative Law (IUS/10), Constitutional Law (IUS/08), European Union Law (IUS 14);

In order for the early internship period to be recognised, the student must graduate within twelve months of the end of the internship. The internship period during university studies shall be deemed invalid if the student intern, despite having obtained a degree, fails to confirm their enrolment in the register of practitioners within ninety days by submitting their degree certificate or equivalent document certifying the award of the degree.

  1. Students who meet the above curricular requirements should submit their application to the Academic Secretariat, together with their curriculum vitae and details of their areas of legal interest. The Secretariat will then draw up a list of students admitted to the early internship period, possibly arranging an interview with the academic tutor to verify their individual motivations.

  2. The list and any updates will be sent to the Bar Association, which will match students with law firms that have agreed to take on student interns. The selected students may then apply for enrolment in the Register of Trainees, drawn up in accordance with Article 41(3) of Law No. 247 of 31 December 2012, in accordance with the procedures set out in the Act supplementing the Agreement in point (3);

  3. Under no circumstances may the first semester of the internship be carried out with a solicitor who is a first-degree relative in the direct line or a second-degree relative in the collateral line.

  4. The professional practice must be attended for at least twelve hours per week.
    The number of hearings that the trainee must attend may be reduced from twenty to twelve.

In cases where the degree is not obtained within two years of the legal duration of the course, the trainee university student may request the suspension of the internship for a maximum period of six months, after which, if the internship is not resumed, the student is removed from the register and the internship period completed remains without effect.
