Uto Ughi (born in Busto Arsizio, VA - 1944) is an Italian violinist who demonstrated his immense talent from a very early age.
He has performed all over the world, with the most prestigious symphony orchestras, including Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, under the direction of masters like Sargent, Sinopoli, Sawallish, Mehta, Barbirolli.
Considered one of the greatest violinists in the world, Uto Ughi is very active in preservation of Italian national artistic heritage.
From 1999 to 2002 he organized the four editions of “Omaggio a Roma”, the festival he founded to introduce public, especially young people, to classic music.
In September 1997, the Republic President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, conferred upon him the honour of “Gran Croce” for his artistic and professional achievment.
