The School of Medicine of Insubria University, in cooperation with several worldwide Institutions, sponsors an international course on advances in basic and clinical oncology under the direction of professors Renzo Dionigi, Martin C. Mihm, Franco Cavalli, and Joseph Fischer for oncology programs and with the cooperation of the Institute for Biomedical Technologies – CNR, the National Institute of Nuclear Physics – INFN and the European Bioinformatics Institute. Fifty faculty members and several guest speakers from major Cancer Institutes and Research Centers as well as Bioinformatics Centers are involved in the program activities.
An international faculty of basic and clinical scientists, including members of the Harvard Medical School and MIT faculties, will teach the courses.
Brief overviews of basic research aspects to the specific pathologies will be provided, followed by presentation of advances in clinical practice. The format will be 3 formal lectures in the morning sessions, and 3 discussion workshops that include clinical case presentations in the afternoon with the morning’s speakers to provide students with the opportunity to interact with leading experts from around the world. Extensive course material prepared by the faculty will be provided.
The courses will be accredited for continuing medical education in the USA by the Harvard Medical School, in Europe by the EU accreditation Council and in Italy by the University of Insubria.
The course will be held in the beautiful atmosphere of Villa Porro Pirelli in Varese, located in the lakes district of northern Italy and only 30 minutes from Malpensa International Airport.
The objective of this course is to update specialists, who already have a basic knowledge in oncology and related disciplines, on the most recent advances in basic research, and bring them into contact with new methods and techniques relevant to clinical practice as well as the new tools available from bioinformatics approaches.
