The mission of the School of Sciences in Varese is based on the model of a research university with an emphasis on the interdependence of excellence in teaching and research.
The School of Sciences was established in 1998 at the University of Insubria under the first Dean, Professor Giulio Lanzavecchia. Initially, the school offered programs in Biology and Computer Science. At present, we have expanded to offer courses in Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology, Communication Sciences and Engineering (environment, health, safety.)
In addition to creativity, our faculty strives to share and cultivate knowledge with our students and the local and global communities. The School of Sciences in Varese offers an excellent staff-student ratio, state of the art equipment, research laboratories and facilities, located both in Varese and in Busto Arsizio. For each three-year undergraduate degree course there is the possibility of continuing specialization (Specialist Degree), which allows graduate students to develop specific topics with a high level of expertise in the different sectors of the Study Programs.
The main features of the degree courses of the School of Sciences in Varese are:
Personalized programs of study leading to the acquisition of highly professional skills
Multi-disciplinary education with lecturers from different schools
Opportunities for work experience with companies and public institutions, or in biology centers both within Italy and abroad
