The School of Medicine was founded in Varese in 1973, first as a satellite center for officially recognized courses, and subsequently as a school of the University of Pavia. In 1998, with the foundation of the University of Insubria, it became the medical school of this University.
The medical course of study encompasses the teaching and research activity of more than thirty Residency Programs, Research Doctorates and Masters Degrees providing a broad range of choices for students. The School of Medicine has expanded, and new degree courses are offered to meet a wider range of medical knowledge and specializations.
The medical science program of study is characterized by excellent teacher-student relationships as well as state of the art facilities, leading to exemplary clinical and research training. The location of the teaching centers in the area (Varese, Como, Busto Arsizio, Bosisio Parini, and soon Gallarate and Saronno) offers the advantage of small numbers allowing for uniform guidance and direction.
Throughout all degree courses and centers, the School of Medicine believes it is important to offer other subjects that provide students with a solid humanistic education alongside traditional science subjects, as prescribed by the more advanced and modern teaching models of Medical Studies.
In accordance with ministerial provisions, admission to the first year of all medical courses is defined by availability of resources such as staff, teaching assistants, classrooms, laboratories for pre-clinical teaching, and hospital beds, necessary for the achievement of educational objectives leading to the acquisition of professional skills and employment opportunities.
