Designed for medical students, the Residency Program in Psychiatry is currently in transition from a four year program into a five year program. All training in clinical psychiatry and psychotherapies is completed under the supervision of faculty in the psychiatric facilities operating with our program. Participation in clinical research is also expected and encouraged.
The Program will provide clinical, classroom and research experience in the following:
Elements of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, endocrinology, neuroradiology of psychiatric syndromes
Mental disorders genetics
Statistics for epidemiological research
Extensive knowledge of general psychopathology
Practical skills for the diagnostic instruments and evaluation tests for the development an integrated therapy
Broad knowledge of clinical psychiatry on mental diseases in the young, adult and elderly, personality disorders, drugs addiction, psychosomatic diseases and eating disorders
Skills in pharmacotherapy (efficacy, effectiveness, side-effects, safety)
Skills in the rehabilitation therapy and psychotherapies
Treating acute psychosis
Elements of liaison and consultation psychiatry (in primary care and general hospital) and community psychiatry in order to design plans of prevention, therapy and rehabilitation of patients with the relatives
Emphasis on the dynamics of the doctor-patient relationship, professional ethics, expert survey and compulsory treatment.
