Established in 2003, the five-year program is designed to train residents in the main fields of Neurosurgery, including head injuries, brain tumors, vascular malformations and spine pathology. In addition to full-time clinical rotations on the surgical wards and operative room, the resident is required to spend two periods of six months each conducting basic research (angiogenesis in brain tumors, blood brain barrier modification, etc) at the University of Insubria and other collaborative institutions and programs. During the last year of residency, the program will include the study of special neurosurgical topics such as paediatric malformations and tumors, surgical treatment of spasticity and pain and epilepsy.
After completion of the program, the resident will have advanced competency in the clinical and surgical management of the basic neurosurgerical pathologies of the central nervous system, and will be granted the degree of Specialized Neurosurgeon, recognized by the EU.
