Started in 2005, this is a new program aimed at developing professionals in scientific research in the field of Neurobiology. The Research Doctorate is offered by the University of Insubria with the collaboration of the Department of Neurosciences, San Raffaele Scientific Institute (Milan).
The program is based on a three-year research project, that the student chooses among a set of project proposals offered by the participating research laboratories, active in the fields of molecular and cellular neurochemistry, neurobiology, neurophysiology, neuropharmacology and neuropathology. Research activity is flanked by classes, laboratory experiences, seminars and discussions, aimed at offering the students a solid theoretical and experimental background in nerve cell biology, functioning and modulation.
Particular emphasis is centered in both experimental work and theoretical education of the molecular aspects of neurobiology, to the most recent methodological and experimental advances, and innovative genomic, proteomic, and biotechnological approaches.
Research fields:
Molecular structure, function and regulation of transmitter receptors, channels and neuro-transporters
Membrane trafficking in neuronal development and secretion.
Synaptic transmission
Modulation of neuronal function by endogenous substances and drugs
Cellular effects, interactions and cross-talk among psychoactive drugs
Neuronal plasticity
Long-term changes in the CNS following pathology and drug-addiction
