The Program is intended to give postgraduate students the scientific basis and the theoretical and practical qualifications for the practice of medical genetics, both at the clinical level, for the students in Medicine, and at the laboratory level, for the students in Biological Sciences.
The goal is to develop a specialist capable of providing accurate genetic counselling, on the basis of valuable laboratory and clinical contributions, to meet the challenges of modern medical genetics.
Three educational areas are covered:
Basic area, which includes biology, genetics, statistics, with special attention to monogenic, multifactorial, and chromosomal disorders in man
Technical area, with theoretical and practical training in molecular genetics, immunogenetics, and cytogenetics, with particular reference to diagnostic and prognostic applications
The clinical area, with specific attention to the genealogical and epidemiological evaluations, to the analysis of every datum essential for diagnostic and prognostic evaluation.
