Established in 2003, the Residency Program in Infectious Diseases at the University of Insubria is a four-year program that grants the title of Specialist in Infectious Diseases.
The program is designed to train medical doctors in the various fields of infectious diseases. The resident must complete 200 hours/year of formal classwork and 38 hours/week of clinical practice in the Infectious Diseases ward at the University Hospital in Varese.
In addition to the general infectious diseases like endocarditis, meningitis, osteomyelitis, complicated skin and soft tissue infections, the residents will also gain experience with a large number of patients with HIV infections, with and without antiretroviral treatment, patients with AIDS related infections or malignancies, patients with infectious complications following solid organ transplantation, febrile neutropenic patients, and patients with acute and chronic viral hepatitis undergoing antiviral therapy or candidates for liver transplantation.
