Established in 1995 at the University of Insubria in Varese, the program offers a four year residency training program, which includes three years of clinical anaesthesia training and one year of intensive care training.
The program requires a total of 800 hours/year, divided into 400 for formal teaching and the remaining 400 to be spent in clinical practice at the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the University Hospital in Varese and/or in one of the authorized Hospitals located in the Insubria vicinity.
In addition to extensive general and regional anaesthetic experiences gained in the operating rooms and the lecture halls, residents rotate through specialty fields including: pre-hospital emergency system, perioperative management for neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, major abdominal surgery, major orthopaedic surgery, kidney transplant, recovery room care management, obstetric analgesia, pain management and critical care.
Upon completion of the residency program, the Board of the School grants the degree of Anaesthesiologist and Intensive Care Therapist recognised within the EU.
